Reverend Margaret Cornish is the Vicar of the St. Alban Anglican Church where she has served for six and a half years. She was recently awarded an Ethel Tibbits Women of Distinction Award for her work in the community. The Reverend, who was born and raised in Vancouver, is married with five children and two grandchildren, of which she is eagerly anticipating a third. The part of her job she loves the most is the opportunity to meet and collaborate with people from many groups and organizations in Richmond, working together toward social change. She finds it both satisfying and challenging to work in a community of faith that studies and reflects contemporary issues over and against sacred texts.

For 118 years, the St. Alban Anglican Church has served the Richmond community with the mission of Pray – Love – Remember. Over that time, the Parish founded, but no longer operates, the Richmond Child Daycare Centre and the Richmond Food Bank. Both of which have moved to other locations.
The church offers many services including, but not limited to, an extreme weather shelter (opening November 1st each year), an all day sanctuary for prayer and meditation, spiritual direction, community meal and clothing distribution, special vigils, Sunday worship, the Richmond Peace Labyrinth – an outdoor gathering place, available at all times for spiritual practice to all faith groups and people of no faith and the Richmond Community Meal which serves over 200 people each week.
There are also many upcoming events or programs to take part in, including a special Remembrance Day service for our servicemen November 7 to 10th, “Carols for the City of Richmond” on December 17th, where local leaders and celebrities tell the Christmas Story with carol singing accompanied by the Salvation Army Band and “A Children’s Christmas Pageant” held on December 19th.
