A Local Hero

Dave MacDonald is the Executive Director of Pathways Clubhouse, the Richmond Branch of the Canadian Mental Health Association. Born in Moncton, New Brunswick, Dave has been living in Richmond for the last 25 years. He is married and has two children, a 19 year old son and a 16 year old daughter.

Dave is proud of the difference Pathways Clubhouse makes in the lives of people living with mental illness. He knows that by working together, they can create meaningful opportunities and experiences for all members by connecting them with their family, friends and community.

“It is exciting when a member gets their first job, first home, learns to read, makes new friends, gives back to the community by volunteering, and has purpose to their day.”

Pathways Clubhouse is the Richmond Branch of the Canadian Mental Health Association, and their mission is to help those living with mental challenges develop the skills they need to return to school, work and the community.

Pathways Clubhouse is located at 7351 Elmbridge Way, Richmond, B.C.

Serving the city of Richmond since 1984, Pathways Clubhouse offers hope, encouragement and opportunities to members living with the daily challenges of mental illness.

The Clubhouse operates on a work-ordered day, which uses a work environment to highlight all aspects of member’s lives, their skills, interests and relationships. The work that they do is meaningful because it reflects directly everyday challenges and successes. Together, Pathways Clubhouse staff help members return to school, gain employment, find a place to live and understand the issues and concerns about mental health.

Providing services in English, Cantonese and Mandarin, they offer a wide range of programs to the whole community.

One of the ways they are increasing their involvement is through the new program called Bounce Back. This will provide support for people with chronic health conditions who may be experiencing mild to moderate depression or anxiety.
